Climb trees not corporate ladders… but what if we can do both? What if the essence of who we are is exactly what the world wants? What if the idea that you have to take out your piercings, cover your tattoos, wear makeup, put on a suit or subdue your personality is actually outdated? Surely now that our bosses, clients and customers are from our own generation, they appreciate that individuality is actually our best asset, not something we should hide. . It’s so ironic because I used to put so much effort to hide my tattoos when I was at ABC News thinking that it wouldn’t be acceptable but one day a tattoo peaked out in a piece to camera and one of my seniors noticed it. I prepared to be warned to cover up but I was so surprised by her remarks. “It’s great to see; it shows we’re a diverse organisation.” From that moment I realised we don’t need to try to be clones. . Climb the trees, climb the ladders; it’s all the same. Just do you because no one else can. We all want you exactly as you are. Honest.
